Gian Majidi

Gian Majidi is an Iranian/Finnish musician. He grew up into a Kurdish family where folk music was big part of their daily life. Violin was his first instrument and later he continued with classical piano before his Art History and Pedagogy studies at Tehran university.Getting to know opera and Singing classical music changed his musical view, brought him to Europe and gave opportunity to work with some of the best singing teachers in the field such as, Jaume Aragall, Salvatore Fisichella and Seppo Ruohonen and Lasse Riutamaa in Finland. Gian also has sung in opera productions of Aida by Giusepper Verdi and L’elisir D’amore by Gaetano Donizetti.

Writing and composing new music have been Gian’s biggest passions for years, although he also writes poems, libretto and screenplays, beside the musical expressions of folk and classical music, Gian loves other art forms such as, movies and theater, literature, photography and history, also he is tautological person and endless chatter, too.

In 2006 he moved to Finland in desire to learn more about singing and to start building his career as a professional singer. His ability to speak and perform in different languages and music genres gives him opportunity to communicate with vast number of audiences.

Gian studied in World music master program (GLOMAS) at art university Helsinki and is a lead singer of oriental pop band BaranBand. His last three albums include, Mn Bo To with BaranBand, La Mia Rosa for piano and voice and Nina which is a collection of Italian aria antiques. At the moment he is working on his solo pop album.

Gian sings in Kurdish, Persian, Italian, English and Finnish languages. He has a master’s degree in world music and his expertise in singing. He sings and teaches other how to sing effortlessly and beautifully.He has developed opera singing with studying many difficult and different roles such as Don Ottavio from Don Giovanni, Alfredo from La Traviata, Edgardo from Lucia Di lammermoor, Tamino from The Magic flute, Macduff from Macbeth, Rodolfo from La Boheme and Nemorino from L’elisir D’amore. He also sings church and religious programs and frequently sings art songs and lieder in recitals.

During last 25 years he has worked as a music critic and journalist in biggest middle eastern newspapers and magazines in Iran such as Shargh, Bani Film, Hamshahri and Iran newspapers. Also, has been active in dubbing and doing the voiceover actor for dozens of documentaries, animation and movies. Meanwhile he has written many screenplays for movies and acted in some short movies. Gian is in search to create his own original sound with using a diverse mixture of influences from classical music, pop, folk and world music.m
